J. Patrick Moynahan has served as associate professor of journalism and chair of the Department of Communication at Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights, Kentucky, since 1998. He joined the NKU faculty in 1990 after nearly 20 years in the newspaper profession, where he won regional and national awards in sport, news, and investigative reporting. He has been a sports reporter and sports editor at the Paducah Sun (Paducah, Kentucky), The Sunday Courier and Press (Evansville, Indiana), and the Kentucky Post (Covington, Kentucky). At the Sunday Courier and Press, the Sunday sports section was adjudged the best in Indiana five consecutive years (1978-1983), and Moynahan received the top award for sports reporting in Indiana. Later, at the Kentucky Post, an investigation into mismanagement and abuse in juvenile rehabilitation homes led to changes in the state's residential treatment programs. The investigative effort, which he directed, was cited in the Best of the Press: Southern Journalism Awards. A native of Kentucky, Moynahan holds a BS in journalism and speech/theater and an MS in mass communication from Murray State University. He and his wife of 31 years, Anita, have three daughters: Kristie, Kori, and Kelli.
