William E. Nichols has taught Media Relations in Sport Administration and related journalism courses at Baldwin-Wallace College, John Carroll University, Hiram College, and Notre Dame College Of Ohio, since 1988. As a freelance writer, Nichols has written for The Sporting News, Football Digest, Basketball Digest, Golf World, Street & Smith College Basketball Annual, and Street & Smith Pro Basketball Annual. He has received recognition as The Sportswriter of the Year (Cleveland Press Club, 1981), runnerup author of sports story of the year (Akron Press Club, 1981), Western Tennis Association Writer of the Year (1988), Ohio Track Writer of the Year (1988), Associated Press Award for Excellence (1987), and Lakewood High School Distinguished Alumni Award for Journalism (1991). He was a sportswriter at The Plain Dealer in Cleveland, Ohio, for 30 years, covering professional basketball, college sports, golf, tennis, bowling, and harness racing. Nichols has a BBA from Baldwin-Wallace College and an MA from Kent State University. Since 1996, Nichols has been an official scorer for the Cleveland Indians. A native of Greater Cleveland, Nichols and his wife of 44 years, Jean, have a son and a daughter, Wade and Lee Anne Lynch.
