Note: Women, Gender and Sport in Africa Symposium February 24-25, 2006 - Ohio University , Athens Ohio http://www.ohiou.edu/sportsafrica/womengender/index.htm Since its inception in 2004, the Sports and Africa Symposium has sought to foster meaningful dialogue on the interface of sports and Africa among academics, practitioners, media, NGOs and the public. The first two conferences covered a range of topics across time and disciplines. The presentations have explored the relationships among sports and broader themes such as politics, culture, gender, age, cooperation, conflict, history, migration, mass media , and development. The multi-disciplinary approach has allowed scholars and practitioners to explore multiple dimensions of African sport. Over the course of the 2005 workshop attendees identified the issue of gender and sports in Africa as worthy of deeper examination. Therefore, the 2006 conference will focus on women, gender, and sports. Among the sub themes that will be considered are: female athletes in Muslim societies, women's national teams, traditional female sports, masculinity, sport and gender and identity formation, sports as a microcosm of gender inequity, and sports as a tool of female self-empowerment. Although we encourage the submission of papers that focus on sports and gender, conference organizers are also open to the submission of papers that deal with other aspects of sports in Africa . The conference organizers sincerely hope that the dialogue will be pursued beyond this initiative, and are planning a symposium that will be not only intellectually engaging, but also a source of inspiration for future scholarly and practical endeavors . http://www.ohiou.edu/sportsafrica/womengender/index.htm http://www.ohiou.edu/sportsafrica/

Note: C4-Sports is the only exclusive exposition and conference dedicated to the sports content industry. Attracting athletic directors, facility managers, sports broadcasters, coaches, and athletes from across the country, it will provide exhibitors with the unique opportunity to network with these professionals. More than 5,000 sports professionals are expected to converge in Las Vegas on July 17-19 for this dynamic marketplace of sports technologies, products, services, and ideas. The opportunity to distribute and receive content has never been greater, and C4-Sports will showcase the most valuable technology tools for every athletic and multimedia budget. Whether on a field, court, mountain, or under water, technology is used to analyze performances in realtime, after the contest, and in preparation for future events. C4-Sports will serve as a dynamic showcase for how electronic media technology can improve the presentation of sports content for all audiences-whether they are watching in the stands, at the computer, in front of the TV, or on mobile devices. It will also serve to demonstrate the ways athletes, teams, and organizations can make better use of media technology in training and in competition.
